When cartoonist Farley Katz of The New Yorker poked fun at Das Racist for their song “Combination Pizza Hut and Taco Bell”, Vazquez (also a cartoonist) challenged Katz to a “cartoon-off”. Katz accepted, and the competition consisted of the two each submitting three cartoons on pre-specified themes.

Each competitor draws:

  1. A day in the life of a rapper.
  2. A day in the life of a cartoonist.
  3. A futuristic utopia where racism does not exist.

The stakes, according to Katz: If The New Yorker wins, Das Racist has to quit rap and become classical musicians. If DR wins, TNY has to become a magazine about rap and jewels.

Surveying the results, Rob Harvilla of The Village Voice declared Vazquez the winner, saying he “destroyed” Katz.
